A Bed That Doesn’t Rock

Off the coast of Statia, sailboats often drop anchor. Seasoned sailors, used to nights on a rocking cabin floor.
The routine is always the same: at first they try to tough it out on board. But when it really gets unpleasant, with swells coming in from every direction, they give in.

On the island, they find exactly what they’ve been longing for: a bed that stays still, walls that don’t sway, and a shower where you don’t have to aim the shampoo.
It feels almost unnatural – but after a few nights, nobody wants to go back aboard.

The irony: once used to solid ground, some have to learn how to walk all over again. Sea legs don’t disappear overnight.
